Topic: Beyond the Ballot: Civic Engagement, Accountability and Holding Leaders to Their Promises
Civic engagement does not end on Election Day. It is an ongoing practice of showing up, speaking up, and holding the people in power accountable to the promises they made to get there. For Black communities especially, the gap between who gets elected and whose lives actually change demands something more than a vote. It demands organized, sustained, and strategic civic participation. This session brings a powerful voice from the front lines of education advocacy and policy to break down what real civic engagement looks like, how to build accountability structures that make leaders follow through, and why the communities with the most at stake must also be the most engaged.
